Wednesday's Program: Classification Talks with Greg Crockett & Karen Baker

Location: The Waterfront in Snake River Landing

For decades Rotary International listed a range of professional “classifications” that restricted how many representatives of each could be in a club. This ensured that each club reflected the community in which it served and was a method used to avoid having one profession become the dominant voice of Rotary Clubs.

Over time, these restrictions gave way, but individual classification continues to be of great interest to your fellow club members. That’s why your Rotary badge carries your name and your classification.
Classification talks help us learn about the life experiences and professional backgrounds of new members – but they are not intended to “pitch” your profession for individual gain. We look forward to learning more about each of you in the coming months!

Program Chairs Needed
Have you ever wondered how we’re able to schedule such incredible speakers to present to our Club? Is there an organization that you’d love to see present to our Club?

Now is your opportunity!
We’re seeking volunteers to serve as monthly Program Chairs. Program Chairs are responsible for scheduling two speakers over the course of their chosen month. Each Program Chair will be provided with the necessary details that will make their scheduled speakers shine!

If your interested in becoming a Program Chair, please email Catherine Smith (csmith@downtownidahofalls.com) and she’ll send you details and available months.

Downtown Idaho Falls Rotary Club Cares

Starting in this month, we’re highlighting a local restaurant that has supported the Downtown Idaho Falls Rotary Club through their involvement of the Duck Race. We are grateful for their past support and happy to support them during this challenging time.
Restaurant of the Month - Local restaurants are really depending on take-out and dine-in service due to gathering and special restrictions.

370 Memorial Drive., Idaho Falls 83404
208-888-3467

Please support this local restaurant (and supporter of The Duck Race) with a take-out order and tell them your a proud and loyal Idaho Falls Rotarian! Better yet, enjoy dinner at Smokin’ Fins before or after joining us for our first Rotary Night Out at the Museum of Idaho on Wednesday, March 31!

Sneak Peek into April Programs
You’ll notice a new monthly program starting in April entitled, “Classification Talks.”
For decades Rotary International listed a range of professional “classifications” and restricted how many representatives of each could be in a club. This ensures that each club reflects the community in which it serves. It also reminds us to not have one profession as a dominant voice in our club. Over time, these restrictions have pretty much given way, but your classification continues to be of great interest to your fellow club members. That’s why your Rotary badge carries your name and your classification.

Classification talks help us learn about the life experiences and professional backgrounds of new members – but they are not intended to “pitch” your profession for individual gain.

Register and join your fellow Rotarians from around the state for this year’s virtual Rotary District Conference on May 21 & 22
Based on the guidance provided by both Rotary International and the District Leadership Council, the 2021 District Conference that was to be held at the Sun Valley Resort on May 21 – 22, 2021 will instead be held virtually on Friday, May 21, 2021.

This year's Virtual District Conference will include a fun-filled pre-show from 6:00 – 6:30 p.m. MST that you will not want to miss, with the actual District Conference being held from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. MST.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our amazing sponsors noted down below, this event will be free of charge!  I would like to personally invite and encourage every Rotarian in our District to attend, either by themselves or with loved ones.

Ed Viesturs, the world famous climber, best-selling author, motivational speaker, National Geographic Adventurer of the Year, etc., will still be our keynote speaker (click here for his bio).  There will also be other exciting events that will occur, including our popular District Raffle.  Trust me when I say that you will not want to miss this event!
