The Forever Pandemic

Jun 12, 2024 12:00 PM

Dr. Ken Krell - topic:  "The Forever Pandemic”

“I’m finally feeling some better. But I’m frustrated. You know one day you’re fine, you have a future and goals, then suddenly it’s ‘what the hell is happening to me’.”

What is the current state of Covid?

What is long Covid?

How prevalent is Long Covid?

Who is at risk?

What does long Covid look like?

Does it get better?

What causes long Covid?

Can long Covid be prevented?

How can long Covid be treated?

What does the future look like?

A tribute to health care workers.

Carrie Athay

IF Symphony Music Education Programs & Community Partnerships

Sep 18, 2024 12:00 PM

Carrie Athay grew up in a family that moved often, traveling and experiencing the cultural arts around the world. Hearing and seeing amazing works through her life, she grew to understand the important role that the arts play in our lives and local communities. The idea that music, history, and art can cross boundaries and help us communicate on emotional levels has helped fuel her drive to build connections in the nonprofit sector in our area.

Carrie studied Humanities and Anthropology at Brigham Young University and has a master’s degree in Museum Studies emphasizing 19th Century American Studies from George Washington University. She has worked for several museums and nonprofits throughout her career, focusing on building community through shared connections.

As the Executive Director of the Idaho Falls Symphony, Carrie works to build bridges and connect us all through the intertwining of our hearts as we experience live orchestral music together. She has a passion for the cultural arts and believes that we thrive as communities when we experience the beautiful textures around us; specifically the textures of Idaho, as seen through our people, cultural arts, and natural surroundings.

Carrie and her husband William are parents to three amazing children. They love to spend time running, hiking and biking through Idaho while enjoying the thriving cultural arts our community has to offer.

Tami Nickerson, Idaho Education Department

K-3 Literacy

Oct 02, 2024 12:00 PM

Tamara Nickerson works for the Idaho Department of Education's Literacy Initiative as an instructional coach in the  SMART (Striving to Meet Achievement in Reading Together) program. After receiving her Bachelor's in Elementary Education with a Math emphasis, Tamara was eager to share her love of Math and Science with her first class of fourth graders. To her dismay, most of the students in her class were well-below grade level for reading ability and at risk for lifelong illiteracy. That experience became the foundation for her devotion to reading instruction. After four years as a public school teacher she then did pre-school education while raising her 4 children. In 2018 Tamara returned to her career as an educator, first achieving a Masters of Literacy Education from Idaho State University, then joining the IDE's first year of the SMART program in 2021.
