Rotarians,

Every year, when the last few days of July wind down and the calendar changes to August, I’m amazed at how fast summer passes. We are hearty Idahoans and I routinely say we tolerate winters in Idaho to celebrate Idaho summers. For those of us who recreate and enjoy the snow during the winter, we know wintertime is a wonderful treat, too. However, there is something so sweet about Idaho summers and the cool evenings we all have the pleasure of enjoying.

August is Membership Month for our Rotary International family. It’s a perfect time to celebrate membership as we are all growing in fellowship with friendships. Our summer picnic, returning to the Idaho Falls Zoo at Tautphaus Park will be held August 3rd at 5:30 pm. What better way to celebrate our membership than alongside our families and friends over a delicious meal and topped off with Farr’s Candy ice cream. I’ll be excited to scoop fresh ice cream for each and every one of you and your family!

August will indeed be a busy month for the Club. Our Duck Race Committee is hard at work lining up all the pieces of the events. Be sure to mark your calendars for the evening of August 11th at Stone’s KIA where our kick-off event will take place with dinner from Sam’s Club and a live band with some fast and shiny cars. I think a few red cars make an appearance from our favorite Club candy man. The next morning, August 12th, the Duck Race activities will be in full motion with a special visit from our District 5400 Governor, Marie Baker.

As we celebrate Membership this month, I want to ask you to think about what does Rotary mean to you. Polio is nearly eradicated globally, and clean water has been provided to communities in the tiniest corners of the world. Locally we have provided scholarships for the next generation of great thinkers and made our community better. As you think about Rotary and where it fits into your life, please consider inviting a friend to Rotary. Together, we are making a difference in this world!

Yours in Rotary, Catherine
