Hopi Salomon moved to Idaho in 1989 for a job with the INEL (INL).  Soon after his arrival he met friends that like to float and fish rivers.  Originally Hopi got into whitewater craft as a way of accessing water typically not runnable in a drift boat.  In the late ‘90s while working for a few years in Colorado he started to do more whitewater including his first trip down the Colorado River through Grand Canyon National Park. After his move back to Idaho in 1999 he bought a cataraft and shortly thereafter was invited on his first early season Middle Fork of the Salmon float trip.  It was a profound experience.  Since then he has floated all the permitted rivers in Idaho, some many times, and numerous rivers throughout the west.  Hopi also occasionally guides 8 and 10 day fly fishing float trips for an outfitter in SW Alaska.  He loves the fact that his wife Kate often rows for him and is most proud that their daughter Emma now owns her own raft and leads trips for her friends.
