This year our RYLA Committee chaired by Lorin Dixon has done a great job working with and enrolling two students to participate in the District 5400 Rotary Youth Leadership Award Program and attend the upcoming RYLA Conference.
What is RYLA?

We are looking for students of all backgrounds that want to experience personal growth and gain leadership experience. Each student is matched with a sponsoring District 5400 Rotary Club - there is no cost to the student. When? Friday July 12 - Monday July 15.

2. RYLA is a leadership camp. What do you think are your greatest strengths (or potential strengths) as a leader? And in what areas could you grow as a leader? Please respond in 3-5 well written sentences.
My biggest strength is definitely empathy. I've always been a big feeler and I have made it my life goal to bring others up and inspire them. One thing I definitely need to work on as a leader is putting myself out there more. I have definitely improved over the years as I set goals for myself but there's still room for improvement.
3. What are you most passionate about? What motivates you? Why? Please respond in 3-5 well written sentences.
One thing that inspires me is music. I have always loved music and I play multiple instruments because of the joy it brings me. I also really love art and I want to become an art teacher when I grow up because of my passion for it.
4. Are you currently part of any clubs or organizations at school or in your community? If so, what is/are they? And what position do you hold? If not, are there any clubs or organizations or causes in your school or community you would like to be a part of?
I am secretary of interact club and am a member in ASL club and Drama club. I actively participate in both Hillcrest Chorale and Jazz choir, both of which are auditioned groups. I'm currently an alto in Jazz Choir, but next year I will be playing electric bass as well as singing tenor for that group. I recently stage managed for the school play, "The Last Radio Show" just last trimester. I have contributed in theater in the past and I would like to do it again, but I unfortunately don't have enough time.

Leaders should be considerate and thoughtful, inclusive, and should have the ability to make hard decisions for the wellbeing of the team. Being aware of what others may be going through will help a leader connect with their team better so that they work together better. Sometimes being a leader means making hard decisions, especially when it could be harmful to the team.
3. What are you most passionate about? What motivates you? Why? Please respond in 3-5 well written sentences.
I am passionate about working for my achievements and putting in my best efforts to be a better person and a better example. I am motivated by my mistakes and failures. Even though they can be disappointing sometimes, my failures help me understand what I did wrong and help me learn more.
