Law Day At Rotary & the Presentation of the Liberty Bell Award - The Honorable Dane Watkins - “The Old Man of Hoy and the Fragility of Our Justice System”
June is Rotary International “Fellowships” month.
Dane H. Watkins, Jr. began his legal career working for the Department of Justice in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba where he interpreted asylum interviews for fleeing Haitian refugees. Following law school, he clerked for an Idaho District Judge. He learned to love the courtroom while working as a deputy prosecuting attorney. In 2001, he became the elected Bonneville County Attorney, where he served for nine years. In 2011, began his fifteen-year service as a District Judge. He has presided over thousands of civil and criminal cases. For four years, he served as the Administrative District Judge. He now works as a senior judge and mediator across the state helping parties find resolution to their conflict. In conjunction with the National Judicial College, Dane works as a judicial coach where he explores with fellow judges’ and attorneys’ strategies for personal and professional growth.
